Sustainable Development

Sustainable development aims to meet the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development may be termed as confluence of social, economic and environmental progress, with focus on balancing and managing these aspects.

The concept of sustainable development formed the basis of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly has a collection of 17 global goals, termed the sustainable development goals (SDGs):
